ASSOULINE - Pierre Cardin: 60 Years of Innovation
ASSOULINE
Announces the Release of PIERRE CARDIN: 60 YEARS OF INNOVATION By Jean-Pascal Hesse
“Geometric motifs, asymmetry, oversized buttons and collars, hooped dresses, vinyl inserts—Cardin
is an original in every sense of the word.” ASSOULINE is delighted to celebrate the sixtieth
anniversary of the Masion Cardin, with the publication of a commemorative retrospective of the work of its founder, fashion
designer Pierre Cardin.
Born in 1922 in San Biagio di Callalta, near Venice, Pierre Cardin immigrated to
Paris in 1924. After working briefly with Elsa Schiaparelli, Cardin joined Dior in 1946 and opened his own couture house
in 1950. He was a pioneer from the start, creating a design-based, architectural fashion with a futurist sensibility.
Cardin also had an avant-garde understanding of fashion’s relationship to new audiences, presenting his collections
to large crowds. He was the first to demonstrate that fashion can be both a creative process and a business—and
that one man can excel as both a businessman and an artist.
This volume is a tribute to this extraordinarily
innovative and iconoclastic designer, taking a primarily visual perspective, highlighting Pierre Cardin’s contributions
to the world of couture, fashion, and perfume, reflecting his spirit and energy as well as the brand’s international
presence.

Formed three years ago by Brown and Bence
over shared musical passions, The Modern Society came together like a big bang of the right place and the right time. The
two had first met while playing in different area bands and when they joined up, they immediately began finishing each other’s
songs. Bence knew Martin and Carter since high school, where they’d all met through their various bands, and he brought
them to play one night. Ask Brown how it all came together and he can’t really explain…they simply met and practiced
together only once to discover it felt like they’d known each other their entire lives. After recording five demos and
sharing them online to a good response, the band booked their first show with no expectations only to have close to 400 kids
show up to hear them. By their third show The Modern Society was nominated for several Atlanta Music Guide awards and shortly
thereafter entered the studio to record their debut. http://www.myspace.com/themodernsociety - Photo Credit: Lauren Dukoff

The DigThe members of New York
City’s The Dig have been playing together in one incarnation or another since they
were 12 years old. In late 2007, the band released their acclaimed debut EP Good Luck and Games and hit the road in spring/summer 2008. By
steadily touring the east coast, playing two month-long residencies at NYC’s Pianos, and taping multiple appearances
on Fox’s Fearless Music, The Dig has earned a loyal following. The
band have been touring throughout 2009 in support of the three-song follow-up to the Good Luck and Games EP, most recently opening
for Girl Talk, Mystery Jets, The Rakes, Tapes ‘n Tapes, Longwave, Ha Ha Tonka, Rural Alberta Advantage, and As Tall
As Lions. The Dig is currently in the studio recording their first full-length album
and will head back out on the road this Fall, including some tour dates with The Walkmen, Here We Go Magic, and White Rabbits. http://www.myspace.com/thedigisup www.thedigmusic.com
