Interview
by Rhonda McKnight
1. How are you? For people who are not familiar with your work can you give us a brief over view?
My
music is really about observation and interpretation...I think I write from a personal place a lot of times but I also just
enjoy expressing my perception of human emotion and behavior through music...it's fascinating to me the way a song can take
you places and change your perspective on something...and I’d say that my sound can be very melodic and guitar rock
at times but can also break down entirely to intimate acoustic
2. You have a very exotic look, what
is your nationality? Where did you grow up?
I get this question almost every day! I'm a mix of a bunch
of things...mostly Italian, German, French, and then also Irish, Scottish and English...and even though I’m all things
European I grew up in Bay Village, OH on Lake Erie
3. How does it feel to be in NYC, LA
other place away from your family?
Traveling is probably my greatest passion aside from art and
music, so I love to be in a million places in a short amount of time but it is hard to be away from the people you care about
the most. My family is a huge part of my life and really has supported me in unbelievable ways throughout my life and career
so I try to spend as much time with them as I can when I’m not working
4. How are
old were you when you decide to do what you do?
I always wanted to be some sort of artist.
My dad taught me to paint when I was a really little girl and then bought me a guitar when I was in fifth grade. When I turned
15 I decided I wanted to try my hand at songwriting and asked him to teach me to play. I fell in love with the release a guitar
gave me and I guess I haven't put it down since.
5. What hobby's do you have?
I
went to school for fine art for two years and that's been a huge passion of mine since I can remember. I still bring a sketchbook
with me everywhere and have a whole corner of my room with my easel and paints that I spend a lot of time in. I bring canvas
on the bus and make a mess of the back lounge. I think anything artistic that allows you to invent something new is essential
to me. I’ve also really loved exploring the world of acting these past few years and would love to do more film, TV
or theater down the road.
6. What is your Hollywood crush? What type of boys do you attract?
Caleb
Follow ill from Kings of Leon...his live performance is unbelievable. I think I tend to attract guys that are driven and spontaneous
since I am definitely both of those things.
7. What is your ideal mate like?
I want
to be with somebody who enjoys a random adventure and would rather play darts at a dive bar then go to the coolest club. I
think I'm drawn to guys who are confident yet don't take themselves too seriously. And they need to be easy to talk to. I
talk a lot, so I have to be with somebody I could talk to for hours and who can laugh at the same things as me. I inappropriately
find humor in almost everything.
8. Who influences your style?
I
think almost everything influences my style...traveling is a great way to see how people present themselves in different parts
of the world and I think that changing your scenery often also is so inspiring. I love Gwen Stefani’s look and Chrissy
Hynde is just fabulous.
9. Who is your favorite designer and why? Who would you love
to be offer an ad campaign or partnership with?
I absolutely love Vivienne Westwood. She does amazing things
with the rock-chic punk look and I also think she does an amazing job of celebrating the feminine figure. I have a small waist
and her clothes accent my figure really well. Another Vivienne I love is Vivienne tam, and I think her vision is beautiful
and partnering with her for a campaign would be incredible. I saw her show at fashion week and was in love with everything!
10. What can Ouch! Magazine
readers expect from you in 2010?
In 2010 I’ll hopefully be touring a lot and taking the live show to another level
by making it interactive and personal. This tour we're hoping to raise money for local educational charities in each city
we stop in to connect with that area in more ways with our partner, the University of Phoenix. I’d love to use the live
show in different ways like that down the road. I also hope to be writing a bunch for another record whenever we start to
work on one, and I’ll also be exploring more acting roles and working on season 7 of one tree hill some more. Overall
I hope next year will give me more opportunities to just reach and inspire people with music!
