ADHESIF THROWS BACK TO THE THIRTIES

Throwback to the glamour of the thirties with Adhesif Clothing! The re-worked, eco-friendly collection contrasts vintage tweed and plaid with leather detailing.

“There are a lot more dresses in this collection,” says Melissa Ferreira, designer of Adhesif Clothing, who translated her inspiration from the culture of the thirties into body skimming, sheath-like silhouettes.

“This season is all about monochromatic colour schemes like black and white,” says Melissa. “I love colour so I also used a lot of nude, burgundy, and varying tones of yellow.”

Look for a draping effect in the Diamond Daze Dress ($320) and the Cooper Trails Coat ($528), fabricated in a combination of melton wool, vintage tweed, recycled leather, and high quality recycled wool sweaters.

“I must say, I absolutely love the Bing Bolero,” Melissa says excitedly! “This is a real statement piece and so much fun to wear over other favourites. It’s a double breasted vest with vintage buttons, plaid suiting, and edgy leather detailing.” Finish the look with jewellery by Dina Gonzalez!

The collection ranges from $98 for a Deco Tiepiece to $528 for the Cooper Tails Coat. Find your next favourite Adhesif design in Vancouver at Dream, Little Dream, Adhesif Clothing Store, and Circle Craft Christmas Market in November, in Winnipeg at Five Two Sustainable Lifestyle Boutique, in Montreal at Boutique Olam, in San Francisco in Revolver, or online at Etsy (

“DYI SHOPPING TOURS”Every Fashionista’s Dream

The launch took place to celebrate the following:  Started over some tea and biscuits, founders Lana Migliore & Duane Hosein, had an idea. "Let's put an end to all the incomplete shopping guides out there! Let's make the most comprehensive material known, and do it better than anyone else!" And so they did. Starting with the first all inclusive up to date downloadable guide while expanding day by day into other neighborhoods and cities DIY Shopping Tours allows you to be the judge of how you want to shop.   This is the first downloadable shopping guide (no one has ever done this before) and the first one launched covered Williamsburg Brooklyn.  December of 2010, the East London guide will launch and after that, many more will follow.  Every Friday during Spring & Summer you can join a group tour in NYC and gain access to private showrooms and sample sales. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, when you become part of this amazing organization, you never leave empty handed as each guest takes home a lavish $100 gift bag at the end of the tour.

The launch event was absolutely fabulous!  The bar was sponsored by NUVO *sparkling liquor*, Hard Candy, Fancy Love, CarolinaPad, Omnibald, Paris Hilton’s new scent, amongst many others.  The event took place at the beautiful Hotel on Rivington, NYC from 7 to 10 pm.

Over 200 guests enjoyed sounds by celebrity DJ Yoshi – official DJ of Rutgers Football – as well as got the chance to network with celebrity guests while sipping on delectable cocktails and as they left the premises, received a gift bag full of goodies!

To get the DIY Shopping Experience and meet the founders behind this incredible new concept that is sure to make a huge impact in the Fashion Industry or to become part of the next tour being assembled, please visit www.diyshoppingtours.com.

Crystal Jin’s Cruise 2010 collection

Hard Bodies for Summer

Crystal Jin Eley came up through the fashion industry one rung at a time, but the comprehensive experience gave her the firm ground to establish Crystal Jin, a luxury swimwear collection.

Upon moving to New York, the Minnesota native soon landed a position with Vlada, an emerging designer who operates a boutique and atelier on the Lower East Side. After attending Parsons The New School for Design, Eley made the rounds at Proenza Schouler, Catherine Malandrino and Lela Rose in the areas of design, sales and marketing. But it wasn’t until designing accessories at J.Crew that she knew it was time to launch her own line.

There are many reasons why Eley chose swimwear, but two stand out. Like many ventures, hers is based on necessity since she could never find styles, colors and fabrics that appealed to her personal taste.

The other is a result of her roots. Minnesotans take their precious summers seriously, and Eley is no exception. Her fond memories of this magical, ephemeral time when women shed their heavy, winter layers for sexy, playful and exotic swimwear inspired her designer monokinis and bikinis. The state’s famous lake communities like Minnetonka and Wayzata also played a part, as she grew up immersed in a sailing, swimming and power boating culture.

Though Eley traveled extensively from a young age for exposure to edgier culture and style, the Midwest’s fashion scene still had its limits. Having become interested in the field during her teens, she knew only New York’s energy would suffice.

The Brooklyn resident taps into the borough’s cultural diversity, art and natural beauty from sprawling parks to waterfronts. Design concepts also come from a range of sources—a shopping spree at her favorite store Barneys, painter Mark Rothko’s color palette or historic, dance costumes during a trip to Russia, to name a few. Believing this delicate balance leads to her best work, Eley thrives on variety, never monotony.
